At Talking Works, we provide compassionate trauma therapy to help you understand and heal from the lasting effects of distressing or overwhelming experiences. Trauma can shape your emotions, body, and relationships in ways that aren’t always obvious but with the right support, it’s possible to reclaim safety, balance, and a sense of self.
Trauma isn’t just the event itself but rather it is the wound created by what was endured. It’s how your mind and body respond and adapt to overwhelming experiences, and how those experiences are stored long after the event has passed. Trauma can look very different for everyone, and it can stem from a wide range of experiences, including:
Trauma can even arise from experiences in early childhood that may not be consciously remembered, yet still influence your reactions, beliefs, and patterns today. Not fully remembering is completely normal as it’s your brain’s way of protecting you.
Trauma manifests uniquely for each person. Small triggers such as sounds, smells, or situations can activate intense emotional, physical, or psychological responses. Sometimes the signs are subtle, and other times they feel overwhelming.
Some common ways trauma lives in the body and mind include:
Trauma leaves a living legacy in both mind and body. Understanding how it shows up is the first step toward healing.
The goal of trauma therapy is to help you understand what is happening to you, cultivate compassion for yourself, and begin to feel safe in your own body and mind. At Talking Works, we focus on stabilizing and regulating the nervous system through bottom-up, body-based approaches such as somatic therapy, mindfulness practices, and breath work.
We also work with patterns and processes that once protected you, helping you understand how they now may feel like limitations or “prisons.” Techniques like emotionally focused individual therapy (EFIT) allow us to explore these patterns safely, creating space for emotional awareness and healing.
Internal family systems (IFS) is another approach we use in trauma therapy. IFS helps you identify and understand different “parts” of yourself; some that hold pain, some that protect, and work toward internal harmony and self-compassion.
Together, these approaches help you:
Trauma therapy is about more than managing symptoms, it’s about reclaiming your life, relationships, and self-identity. At Talking Works, we create a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your experiences at your own pace. Healing from trauma is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone.
We meet you where you are, draw on multiple evidence-based approaches, and focus on building understanding, safety, and empowerment so you can move forward with confidence and compassion for yourself. If you are interested in learning more about trauma therapy and whether it may be right for you, our trained clinicians are available to answer any questions you may have and guide you through the process.
