The adolescent years come with many opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery, however, they do not come without their challenges. Your adolescent may be experiencing anxiety, depression, academic stress, struggles with self-image, or perhaps has gone through a recent traumatic event. Your entire family may even be experiencing major life transitions, such as divorce or loss, that is taking a toll on the entire family system. Through counselling, we are here to help both you, and your adolescent, better understand what is happening internally so they can receive the support they need.
At Talking Works, we provide online adolescent therapy and parent support to families in London Ontario and surrounding areas. We believe in working alongside parents/guardians in order to help children and adolescents thrive within their environments. We take an integrative approach to counselling, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapies to create a holistic and individualized treatment plan. Attachment science tells us that early relationships matter most so we strive to create both a safe and secure attachment in session with our counsellors, and most importantly, between parents and their youth. Using attachment based therapy (ABT) as the foundation for all of our work, we are better able to understand the complex relationships that shape an adolescent’s development and wellbeing.
We also pull from the tenets of internal family systems therapy (IFS) to help adolescents explore various “parts” of their personalities, to better understand their emotions and needs, and to develop a stronger sense of self-awareness and self-compassion.

The primary focus is on the youth’s therapeutic work, while recognizing that parents play an important role in supporting change. We also offer parent coaching to help deepen and reinforce the therapeutic work outside of sessions.
Adolescents may seek therapy for anxiety, low mood, stress, self-esteem, family conflict, school pressures, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions. Sometimes they simply know they are struggling and need a safe place to talk.
It is common for adolescents to feel unsure about therapy. We focus first on building trust and creating a respectful relationship where the young person feels heard and has an appropriate sense of choice and ownership in the process.
While the youth remains the focus of their therapy, parent coaching can help caregivers understand patterns at home and respond differently. This allows therapeutic changes to be supported and reinforced in everyday life.
Adolescent therapy sessions at Talking Works are $155 each, with every session running 50 minutes. This gives your teen a consistent, dedicated block of time to work with their therapist, while parent support remains part of the process to help you stay informed and involved.
