I love what I do and the people I work with. My work as a counsellor is focused on the premise that people matter most. It is my belief that the most powerful agent of change is when a counsellor and client develop a working relationship defined by safety, raw vulnerability, and authentic honesty. It is my hope that I am able to work alongside each of you, offering unwavering support, as you navigate through unprocessed experiences, challenging emotions, and difficult thoughts. I closely work with all individuals, couples, and families, to create realistic goals that feel achievable and create a sense of empowerment.
Through my years of work with children and youth, I came to realise that in order to truly address the challenges they face, broadening their circle of care to include parental and familial work is pivotal. I have witnessed through my experiences the devastating effects of unhealed wounds and persistent felt distance that many couples and families experience. This revelation pushed me towards professionally focusing on couple work as I believe that to help a child means to help a couple. Attachment science tells us that by strengthening the couple and parent-child bond, families find new ways to communicate and are better able to navigate together through life’s never ending challenges.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I hold a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University and undergraduate degrees in the arts and education from Brock University. For several years, I have been practicing as a licensed professional teacher for the Thames Valley District School board in the elementary school sector. I have worked in mental health facilities including Western Area Youth Services as a residential counsellor and at Vanier Children Mental Wellness Services as a child and family therapist. Over the last several years, I have been working with adults, couples, and adolescents through private practice, with a strong focus on couple and parenting work.
I use a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and client centered approach. I pull from a variety of therapy models to best serve the people I work with: Emotion focused therapy, emotionally focused couples therapy, attachment based therapy, internal family systems, cognitive behavioural therapy, and solution focused therapy.
