My deepest desire is to help others know their greatest potential and live abundant lives of joy and peace. I believe people innately have the ability to be powerful, loving, free beings, which informs how I view clients and maintain hope in practice. As an Indo-Guyanese Canadian female, I have a personal understanding of the complexity of one’s culture and social location, and know that non-judgement, empathy, openness and curiosity are essential to healthy therapeutic relationships. It is my personal experience as a client that led me to become a psychotherapist. I have first-hand experience of the healing power of vulnerability, self-compassion and honesty. Thus, I ensure I feel safe within myself to be authentic as a therapist so my clients can feel the same.
I’ve come to understand that our beliefs about ourselves and others significantly affect how we feel and behave in relationships. This is why I support clients in assessing their beliefs, especially their sense of worth, and journey with them in noticing how these beliefs affect their daily lives and where it may be beneficial to make some changes.
My background in psycho-spiritual care has equipped me to venture with clients into exploration of broader questions regarding human worthiness, purpose, meaning and faith. I love journeying with clients as they explore these topics, and find it rewarding when clients learn to create new meaning for their lives that better serve them.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I completed a Master of Pastoral Studies in Psychotherapy and Spiritual Care from Knox College at the University of Toronto. I also have degrees in English from Andrews University in Michigan and formerly served as an English teacher. I have worked as a Psycho-Spiritual Therapist at Baycrest and Brampton Civic Hospitals. Additionally, I was a Child and Family Therapist at York Hills Centre, and have worked with a diverse range of clients through private practice. Currently, I am a Multi-Systemic Therapist at Associated Youth Services of Peel.
I use an integrative, client-centred and culturally sensitive approach to therapy to help clients meet their therapeutic goals. I mainly draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Psycho-spiritual care, Trauma-informed processing and mindfulness, with an attachment theory-based lens. I usually encourage exercises outside of therapy to ensure long-lasting improvement and well-being.
