After becoming a mother myself, it was painfully evident that maternal mental health care is unfortunately lacking in our community. Even in the best situations, the journey into and through parenthood causes significant stress and adjustment. Regardless of the stage you are in, pre-conception through pregnancy or postpartum, it’s common to experience anxiety and uncertainties surrounding parenthood, as well as role and identity changes. Utilizing trauma informed, client centered care I help not just mothers through difficult seasons of life but also adults and teens presenting with various mental health challenges.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at Yorkville University located in New Brunswick. My Bachelor of Arts Degree was completed at Adrian College located in Michigan, USA, where I studied Criminal Justice and Social Work. I spent 5 years as a Youth Specialist in various youth correction facilities and group homes. It was in these facilities I offered emotional support to youth and their families, guidance in transitional seasons of life and safety in times of crisis.
I operate from a client centered, trauma informed and individualistic approach that is always inclusive of cultural sensitivities. I utilize various techniques when working with clients based solely on their needs and strengths. I apply components of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to support, guide and empower clients!
